BENZONIA, Michigan â Gwen Frosticâs life as an artist is on full display at her unique Benzonia, Michigan studio that uses her linoleum blocks and Heidelberg presses to print her distinctive work.
The Gwen Frostic Studio, a destination for the art community and tourists alike, was recently placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
âWe are just so proud for Gwen and all of her hard work,â said Kim Forshee, who with her husband Greg now owns the studio. âWe felt very honored. We wish she was here to see this.â

The stone houses of Jefferson County that dot the landscape like sentinels honoring our early settlers could be taking a solid step in recognition and preservation.
Among the 20 recommendations made by the state Board of Historic Preservation earlier this year for state and national registers of historic places, one is for âStone Buildings of Jefferson County.â
Specifically, a âStone Houses of Jefferson County Multiple Property Documentation Formâ would serve as a framework for the structures to be placed on the historic registers. Participation by owners would be optional.

WINSLOW The country’s oldest blockhouse is getting a needed update.
Construction began Thursday on a new roof for Fort Halifax, a town treasure and National Historic Landmark. The project is expected to be completed by the end of May.
Hamilton County History Scholars Advance To National Competition Friday, April 23, 2021 Ten Hamilton County students who placed first or second in their categories at this year’s virtual Tennessee History Day contest will represent Tennessee at National History Day this summer. After competing in and receiving awards at regional contests across the state, 220 students participated in this year’s Tennessee History Day, held the first two weeks of April. Out of 127 group and individual projects submitted, 62 students advanced to the National History Day competition, 88 students earned medals, 18 students were awarded special prizes and two educators were recognized as Educators of the Year.
