Community Housing of Maine is proposing to build 93 new units of senior and family housing on the Mercy Hospital campus in Portland’s West End.
The Portland nonprofit, which supports housing for older and lower-income Mainers, is asking the city’s approval for a new building, called The Equinox, running along Winter Street, at the back of the State Street-facing Mercy property. The building would have 41 affordable family apartments and four stories facing Winter Street, for a height of 44 feet, the developers say in documents submitted to the city.

WEST PALM BEACH, FL. â The oldest synagogue in Palm Beach County, Temple Beth Israel, is being considered again to be designated as a historic place.
It found a forever home in 2012 by moving to Temple Beth Elâs campus and located off N. Poinsettia Avenue. It is now Yeckes Family Chapel.
According to the city, a property; even once itâs deemed historic with the land underneath, it does need to have a new designation so that it carries with the new parcel.

WINCHESTER A plan to expand Winchester Public Library is progressing.
“The design of the building is about 60% complete,” Greg Hillis of Benton and Associates told city council this week.
Benton and Associates is a consulting firm that provides civil engineering and land surveying services.
Final drawings are expected to be submitted to the Historic Preservation Board by the end of March, he said.
The board has to approve of the plans for the renovation before work can move forward, he said.
The renovation effort has come a long way since 2021, when the library first applied for a grant for expansion, library director Darlene Smith said.
