Lincoln junior Katelyn Reddick gains perspective with community service

Katelyn is inspired towards service by her parents, who taught her to give back by demonstrating lives of service. “My parents took me everywhere they went,” she says, laughing. That was often to Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, where she has grown up serving others through community service. “When you do community service, you get to meet all kinds of different people and hear their ideas and perspectives,” she explains. “I really like learning about how people see things.” This intrigue has led her to enroll in classes at Tallahassee Community College, studying psychology as she plans to attend a HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) pursue it as a major. “Learning about people’s perspectives helps us understand each other and get along.”

Dear Colleague Letter: Supplemental Funding for Postdoctoral Researchers to Mitigate COVID-19 Impacts on Research Career Progression (nsf21066) | NSF

NSF 21-066 April 6, 2021 BACKGROUND NSF seeks to lessen the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) research and STEM education research and development. Known impacts include decreased faculty research productivity and difficulty in initiating and/or maintaining a career trajectory in either STEM or STEM education research and development. The goal of this funding opportunity is to support sustained research productivity and career progression of early career researchers who have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic. Such support could sustain the research careers of new or current postdoctoral researchers, as well as help mitigate pandemic-related reductions in research productivity of early career faculty.
