Apple Announces Entrepreneur Camp for Black Founders and Developers

Social Media Apple has the latest program under the umbrella of its $ 100 million Racial Justice and Justice Initiative Justice announced. Founders and teams from 13 app companies are participating in the first Entrepreneur Camp for Black Founders and Developers. The camp is designed to help developers improve their technical skills, receive personal code-level support from Apple engineers, and mentoring and insights from company executives to obtain. Apple is David Bosun-Arebuwa, whose B3am app uses an iPhone camera and machine learning to detect fitness equipment, also works with venture capital firm Harlem Capital, which invests in founders of diverse backgrounds to provide guidance and mentoring.

The Home Depot Continues Support for HBCUs with $1 Million

Established in 2009, the program has emphasized HBCUs’ vital role in the American higher education system. This year, the home improvement retailer is doubling its Retool Your School commitment to fund 30 projects, providing $20,000 to $75,000 grants per school.   HBCU students, alumni and advocates can vote for their favorite HBCUs through Twitter and Instagram using the school’s designated hashtag found at retoolyourschool.com or through the voting portal also on the website. There are three school clusters, based on student population, and the ten schools with the most votes per cluster will be awarded the campus improvement grants. NCCU Chancellor delivers keynote Black History Month message at historic Durham church

DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) On Sunday, historically Black colleges and universities across the country were celebrated at one of the oldest Black churches in North Carolina. Members of St. Joseph s AME Church wore their personal HBCU apparel, as they welcomed Sunday s keynote speaker, NC Central University s 12th chancellor, Dr. Johnson Akinleye. HBCUs have unequivocally served as an anchor of our society since its founding, said Akinleye, a two-time HBCU graduate. The theme of Akinleye s message underscored the importance of HBCUs through American history. He noted HBCU s legacy of providing educational opportunities for people of color dating back to the era of Jim Crow segregation.
