Black History Month serves as a time for communities from all racial backgrounds to celebrate and preserve Black history through art, activism and education. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, student organizations have still made it a point to honor Black excellence through esteemed principles and new-found traditions.
Throughout February, student organizations will begin hosting various virtual and limited in-person events to recognize Black History Month and reflect on its meaning to students at Texas State.

NBCU Academy and NBC News Studios have announced the launch of Original Voices, a new fellowship program given to six diverse documentary filmmakers to support feature-length non-fiction films that shine a spotlight on social issues and identities.
The grants total US$270,000 with each filmmaker awarded $45,000 to fund original docs across all production stages.

The Siebert Williams Shank Foundation, the charitable arm of Siebert Williams Shank & Co. LLC, has donated $200,000 to Howard University and Spelman College to support programs educating the next generation of African American business leaders and to inspire others to do the same as Black History Month kicks off.
The minority- and women-owned investment bank is led by President and CEO Suzanne Shank, who remains Detroit-based following the 2019 merger of her Siebert Cisneros Shank & Co. Gilead Sciences, Inc. (Nasdaq: GILD) and the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) civil rights organization, today announced that Gilead will provide a $3.2 million grant over two years to support communities disproportionately impacted by the HIV epidemic in the United States, particularly communities of color. Gilead will directly fund the efforts of the HRC Foundation – HRC’s educational arm – aimed at ending the HIV epidemic, as well as fund the organization’s Transgender Justice Initiative.
