Energy assistance program to begin

Energy assistance program to begin Butler County Times Gazette With winter arriving, an assistance program to assist with heat bills comes alongside it. The Low-Income Energy Assistance Program will launch Jan. 4.  “Winters in Kansas have the likelihood of bringing frigid temperatures, add in the financial pressures of the pandemic, it’s especially important this year that families have access to this important service to avoid financial concerns,” said Department for Children and Families Secretary Laura Howard. “Our staff is prepared to begin processing LIEAP applications, so families have warm homes this winter season.” LIEAP provides an annual benefit to help qualifying households pay winter heating bills. Persons with disabilities, older adults and families with children are the primary groups assisted. In 2020, about 34,000 households received an average benefit of $960.

More options available for heating assistance

RALEIGH The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services announced beginning Monday, Jan. 4, households can apply for the Crisis Intervention Program (CIP) and the Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) online at www.epass.nc.gov. This helps make it easy and convenient to apply for these programs in a safe and socially distance way. In addition to ePASS, Rutherford County Department of Social Services offers several other safe options to apply. Applications can be made by telephone by calling the Energy Line at 828-287-1248. A telephonic signature will be utilized so no visit to the agency is necessary. Due to higher than normal call volumes during this time, consumers may be prompted to leave a message. Calls will be returned within 24 hours to begin the application process.

West Virginia s consumer advocate stepping down

But they might stick around to listen, if they knew the many ways Roberts saves them money. Saving money for consumers by fighting for them in rate proceedings and policy fights that threaten to bloat their utility bills has been Roberts’ job as West Virginia’s consumer advocate for the past seven years. Now she’s moving on from her post as director of the state Public Service Commission’s Consumer Advocate Division to become a federal policy adviser for the PSC on Jan. 18, a role in which she will focus on PJM, the regional transmission organization that coordinates wholesale electricity movement in all or parts of 13 states, including West Virginia, and the District of Columbia.
