Angering the Congress, Sena’s Rajya Sabha MP and Saamana editor Sanjay Raut, had on Saturday, taken a public dig at the Congress’s leadership. Contending that a “weak opposition” was bad for democracy, Raut had called for expansion of the Congress-led UPA.
Lashing out at the Sena on Monday, AICC’s (Maharashtra in-charge) H K Patil said, “There are efforts by some people to create confusion amongst UPA partners. Those who are not part of the UPA shouldn’t poke their nose in UPA’s affairs. They are not relevant.”
Former minister and Congress’s Mumbai campaign committee chief Naseem Khan, objecting to remarks in Sena mouthpiece Saamana, said. “If someone unnecessarily points a finger at our leader, Congress workers know how to bend it.”

Thorat appoints a 13-member panel to oversee preparations
After being snubbed by the central leadership over its lacklustre performance despite being part of the tripartite Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, the Maharashtra unit of the Congress has kick-started preparations for the 2021 local body polls in the State.
State Congress president and Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat on Wednesday appointed a 13-member election management committee to oversee preparations for the upcoming polls in five municipal corporations, two zilla parishads, 13 municipal councils and 83 municipal pachayats.
In the letter, dated December 14, Gandhi reminded Thackeray of the common minimum programme (CMP) of the Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress government and sought implementation of certain measures for the welfare of Dalits and tribals.
She demanded reservation in government contracts for SC/ST professionals to promote entrepreneurship among them, among other things.
The letter was significant as Gandhi has written to Thackeray for the first time since her party and the NCP formed an unlikely alliance with the Shiv Sena last year.
The three parties had worked out the CMP before forming the alliance after the 2019 Assembly elections. Sonia ji is guiding us the way honourable (NCP President) Sharad Pawar ji does. “The only difference is instead of meeting in person, a letter (written by Gandhi) was shared (with the Chief Minister), Thorat said.
