Bipartisanship, like pollen, has been in the air in Raleigh lately. Both will be gone soon.
Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper signed the âExcellent Public Schools Act of 2021â championed by Phil Berger, the Republican Senate president pro-tem. Democrats and Republicans voted overwhelmingly for the bill; it passed the Senate 48-0 and the House 113-5.
But when he signed the law, Governor Cooper said:
âLearning to read early in life is critical for our children and this legislation will help educators improve the way they teach reading. On April 1, 2021, the CFPB issued
Compliance Bulletin 2021-02 (the “Bulletin”), warning mortgage servicers to “take all necessary steps now to prevent a wave of avoidable foreclosures this fall.” The Bulletin and
associated press release cite industry data suggesting that around 1.7 million borrowers will exit COVID-related forbearances in September 2021 and the following months, many of whom will be a year or more behind on mortgage payments. With federal foreclosure moratoriums expiring at the end of June 2021, the CFPB warns that servicers will need ramped-up capacity to reach out and respond to the large number of homeowners who will need loss mitigation assistance.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) extended the tax payment deadline from April 15 to May 17, at a time when the third round of stimulus checks surpassed $335 billion in payments reaching 130 million Americans.
This and other provisions approved in the American Rescue Plan, such as the child tax credit and the establishment of non-taxable unemployment benefits, seek to help families economically battered by the pandemic.
Monroe County s weekly COVID updates will now be simulcast in Spanish
The office of Monroe County Executive, Adam Bello announced on Friday that a Spanish-language simulcast of the weekly COVID-19 updates will now be available through the County s Communications Department s YouTube channel, a victory for language access advocates.
This announcement comes nearly a month after the Monroe County Legislature passed a bill that creates the role of Language Access Coordinator after community members who have Limited English Proficiency, including Spanish speakers, and members of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community decried unequal treatment and lack of information throughout the pandemic.
