Lagos disburses N4.2 bn pension arrears in two yrs

Lagos State Government said it has paid N4,203,784,514.49 arrears to pensioners in the state under the Defined Benefits Scheme otherwise known as ‘Pay As You Go’ from May 2019 to March 2021.
Commissioner for Establishment, Training, and Pension, Mrs. Ajibola Ponle, disclosed this on Wednesday, at the 2021 ministerial press briefing which is part of activities to mark the second anniversary of Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led administration.
According to Ponle, as part of the state’s commitment to the welfare of pensioners, Governor Sanwo-Olu approved payment of 33 percent increment for all state pensioners under the Defined Benefit Scheme and also paid the balance of the 25 percent rent allowance for officers on Grade Level 07 and above who retired between May 2000 and August 2004.

Buhari approves minimum wage for pensioners
The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), has approved the payment of new minimum wage to pensioners.
The Executive Secretary, Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate, Dr Chioma Ejikeme, disclosed this at a news conference on Friday in Abuja.
She said that with the presidential approval, PTAD had been empowered to start the upward adjustment of all pensioners’ benefits according to the approved template.
Ejikeme said the adjustment of the new pension payment would start from May 2021 adding that the payment of the arrears would cover the period of the implementation of the minimum wage.
“The arrears from April 2019 will be paid along with the pensioners’ monthly benefit starting from May 2021 payroll.”
