Virginia Governor Signs Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act Wednesday, March 3, 2021
As expected, today Virginia Governor Ralph Northam signed the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act (the “Act”) into law, though the Act will not go into effect until January 1, 2023. As a result, Virginia becomes the second state in the United States to enact a data privacy law that purports to regulate the collection, use, and disclosure of the personal data of its residents generally. Virginia Governor Ralph Northam is considering signing a bill that would require safe, in-person learning options for students as soon as this summer. Although it wouldn t be required, parents wonder whether getting kids back into classrooms will help close the achievement gap created by the pandemic.
Dara Dugger, director of the Prince William County Public Schools Student Management and Alternative Programs, says the district has been planning for summer school since last fall. They re planning in-person summer school classes along with virtual and hybrid options.
