WASHINGTON A woman has died after being shot in the chest at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday after supporters of President Donald Trump stormed the building during a violent clash with police, forcing a lockdown of the ceremony to confirm Joe Biden’s win in the November election. Washington D.C. police were the first to confirm the woman’s death Wednesday afternoon. As reports emerged that the woman had been shot, Trump tweeted: “I am asking for everyone at the U.S. Capitol to remain peaceful. No violence! Remember, WE are the Party of Law & Order – respect the Law and our great men and women in Blue. Thank you!”

A Virginia man was convicted this week after leaving a loaded firearm within reach of his child, who unintentionally shot himself, marking the first case prosecuted under a new state law increasing penalties for “recklessly” leaving guns near children. Radell J. Bolden, 36, who had his gun rights restored less than one month before the incident, was found guilty in Chesterfield General District Court under the new law, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported. Bolden was sentenced to a year in jail with all 12 months suspended, as well as 24 hours of community service. He must also surrender his firearm and attend a firearm safety class.

Erected in 1909, the sculpture was one of two representing Virginia in the building’s National Statuary Hall, where every state gets two statues. Lee’s figure was located in the Crypt, where 13 statues represent the original 13 colonies. It will now be moved to the Virginia Museum of History and Culture in the state capital of Richmond.

Even with vaccine deliveries on the way, Virginia has proposed a Permanent Standard for consideration by the Virginia Safety and Health Codes Board (which includes author Courtney Malveaux). The Emergency Temporary Standard Since July 27, 2020, Virginia Occupational Safety and Health (VOSH), the state counterpart of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), has enforced an Emergency Temporary Standard that mandates and, in some instances, exceeds guidance issued by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and OSHA. The Emergency Temporary Standard covers most private employers in Virginia, as well as all state and local employees.
