Suzanne Bonamici urged advocates from 11 community groups to rally around the latest congressional effort to overhaul the nation s immigration system. The Democrat from Beaverton, who represents the 1st Congressional District that includes Newberg and Dundee, spoke Feb. 19 at a virtual roundtable discussion one day after she and other House and Senate cosponsors unveiled the 353-page bill. Bonamici said she hopes the third time will be the charm with President Joe Biden, who has moved quickly with presidential orders to repeal or put on hold the actions of former President Donald Trump, a harsh critic of longstanding U.S. immigration policies. Previous attempts to overhaul the nation s immigration system failed under Republican George W. Bush and Democrat Barack Obama.

County likely to drop to High risk level

County reduced to High risk level; indoor dining, recreation, entertainment resumes Updated Tuesday, 3:30 p.m.: The state announced Tuesday that Yamhill County, along with neighboring Polk and Marion counties, has been lowered from Extreme to High risk level, meaning that limited indoor dining, recreation and entertainment is allowed starting Friday, Feb. 26.  - The Oregon Health Authority reported 184 cases for Yamhill County in the two-week period from Feb. 6-20, which would result in moving from the “Extreme” to “High” risk level beginning Friday, Feb. 26. That would allow indoor dining at restaurants to resume with 25% capacity or 50 people, whichever is smaller, along with indoor recreation and entertainment activities.
