Several public health agencies in Washington and Idaho say they are going back to administering the Johnson and Johnson Covid vaccine after getting the go-ahead from the Centers for Disease Control.
The CDC has advised that the risks of developing serious blood clots as a result of the shot are less than the risks of not receiving a shot.
“Up to 50% of people admitted to the hospital with Covid, if they were to get a CT scan looking for a clot, will have it. So it’s a real risk of getting Covid as well. Again, Covid is far worse than any of these other risks, said Dr. Chris Baliga, an infectious disease specialist at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health in Seattle.
St. Michael Medical Center operations chief departs for new job

BREMERTON Matt Wheelus, the operations chief who oversaw the relocation of Bremerton s Harrison Medical Center campus to a new regional home in Silverdale, is departing the company for a new job in May.
Wheelus will soon become regional vice president of operations for United Surgical Partners International, a health care provider specializing in ambulatory care. The organization has some 450 care facilities across 30 states. The job will allow Wheelus to continue to live in the Gig Harbor area.
He called the decision to leave bittersweet. It was a great opportunity I couldn t pass up, he said. But I will miss working with the teams and the staff here. It s been an incredible journey with Franciscan and St. Michael.

Hospital leaders Monday said that a fourth wave of COVID-19 is driving up hospitalizations in Washington, that young patients make up an increasing proportion of their workload and that some are suffering from more severe disease than earlier in the pandemic.

SEATTLE The Sounders took on San Diego Saturday in their first MLS game played at Lumen Field in Seattle with fans in more than a year. Most of the 200 fans in attendance were frontline healthcare workers.
It was a professional soccer game happening on the same property where earlier in the day COVID-19 vaccines were distributed.
