Virginia Department of Emergency Management hiring outreach specialists to spread vaccine information The department is looking for applicants to work 12 to 25 hours a week for $20 an hour, going into communities and encouraging people to get the vaccine. Author: Connor Rhiel Updated: 6:31 PM EDT April 13, 2021 HAMPTON, Va. There are plenty of COVID-19 vaccines still available at clinics in the area, so Tuesday s Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) job fair searched for workers to send into the communities for outreach and registration.  That outreach might even result in a clinic near you. If you have group of 20 or 30 people that want to get vaccinated we can create an event for them, said Gaylene Kanoyton, the president of Celebrate Healthcare.

Students travel to Danville to receive COVID-19 vaccination

As COVID-19 vaccine rollouts progress throughout Virginia, many students have begun to search for ways to get vaccinated as quickly as possible.  As of April 2, the Central Shenandoah Health District has moved into Phase 1C of the vaccine rollout process. Prior to this, the health district had been in Phase 1B since Jan. 18. Phase 1B included frontline essential workers, people between the ages of 16 and 64 with underlying health conditions, adults 65 and older and those who live in homeless shelters, migrant camps or correctional facilities. Phase 1C allows essential workers not included in phase 1B to be vaccinated.  For the majority of students, this means they didn’t qualify to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in Harrisonburg until recently.

The Virginia Department of Emergency Management awarded Roanoke Fire-EMS more than $161,000 for the VDEM Regional 6 Special Operations teams. One grant is for the Swift Water and Heavy Technical Rescue Programs, and the second is for the Hazardous Materials Team. Both grants will help first responders better respond to swift water rescue and hazardous waste calls. Since the department is part of regional swift water rescue and hazardous materials teams with other localities, the city will disperse the funds to other local departments, like Salem, Roanoke County and Franklin County.
