5 Ocean Terms You May Not Know - But Should!

5 Ocean Terms You May Not Know But Should! These little-known but fascinating ocean phenomena will leave you wanting to learn more. 1. Tidal Bore The name “tidal bore,” also called a “bore tide,” is a bit of a misnomer these natural occurrences are anything but boring. Science Center for Marine Fisheries: New Study: Little Known About How Wind Farms Affect Critical Mid-Atlantic Ocean Feature

(2) OCEAN SPRINGS, MS / ACCESSWIRE / February 2, 2021 / While not often in the spotlight, an oceanographic feature known as the cold pool, which stretches from Massachusetts to North Carolina, is critical for the health of many marine species. However, a new study from the Science Center for Marine Fisheries finds that, despite its importance, not much is known about how the growing offshore wind industry could affect the cold pool, and the marine life that depends on it. The study, from Dr. Travis Miles, Sarah Murphy, Dr. Josh Kohut, Sarah Bosetti, and Dr. Daphne Munroe, all of Rutgers University, reviewed existing literature on how wind farm construction affects ocean environments in Europe, where most offshore wind farm construction has so far taken place, and lays out what can be learned from the European experience, and what aspects about potential interactions remain unknown.

Vehicle submerged – Gazette Journal

AVFR PHOTOS Members of Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue were called to Gloucester Point Tuesday morning for the report of a vehicle in the water at a boat ramp. First arriving units found a vehicle in the water above its roof. An AVFR member put on a dry suit to check for occupants. A quick check showed no one in the vehicle. A line from a rescue unit was attached to the rear of the vehicle and it was then pulled up the ramp. Virginia Marine Resources Commission, Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia Institute of Marine Science personnel also assisted. There were no reported injuries and GCSO took over the scene. The Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office reported Wednesday morning that the submerged vehicle had been reported as stolen from Prince George County.
