The Coalton Division of Highways District 8 substation was deemed a total loss after a fire destroyed the facility late Monday evening. Multiple pieces of heavy equipment were also destroyed in the blaze.

KEYSER, W.Va. â Authorities on Friday identified the man who was shot and killed by police when he reportedly attempted to disarm a Mineral County Sheriffâs Office deputy at the scene of a New Creek house fire.
Winston Kent Redman, 35, was pronounced dead at the scene of the Wednesday incident at 1316 Hooker Hollow Road, the Mineral County Sheriffâs Office said in a news release.
According to deputies, Redman suffered significant burns in the fire and was being treated by medical personnel when he became âagitated and combativeâ with the providers and left the ambulance.
Redman was convinced to reenter the ambulance, deputies said, but continued to be combative and, as a deputy entered the ambulance, Redman lunged from the stretcher, shoved a paramedic and pushed the deputy off the rear step of the ambulance, then grabbed the officerâs holstered firearm.

NEW CREEK - The West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the cause of a blaze that heavily damaged a Hooker Hollow Road residence early Wednesday morning.
One person was injured during the fire and taken to WVU Medicine Potomac Valley Hospital for treatment, while another person, who was also injured and to be transported to PVH, got into an altercation with two Mineral County Sheriff’s Deputies and died at the scene from a gunshot wound.
According to a spokesperson for the New Creek Volunteer Fire Department, they were alerted to the fire at 1316 Hooker Hollow Road at 6:21 a.m., and arrived on the scene to find a one-story single family dwelling with fire evident on the first floor and basement.

KEARNEYSVILLE â A West Virginia Air National Guard member died early Sunday while helping firefighters respond to the the scene of a blaze that had been intentionally set, authorities said.
The airman was assigned to the 167th Airlift Wing in Martinsburg. The unit was part of a mutual aid response to a fire at a vacant structure in Kearneysville, the West Virginia State Fire Marshalâs Office said in a statement.
The blaze has been connected to nearby fire at another vacant structure reported about 20 minutes earlier, the statement said. Investigators determined that both were the result of arson, officials said.
