Williams II was recognized Jan. 26 for five years of service on the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation board of directors. VFBF President Wayne F. Pryor presented an award to Williams during a virtual Farm Bureau board meeting. As the organization’s District 5 director, Williams represents Farm Bureau producer members in Amherst, Augusta, Bath, Highland, Nelson, Rockbridge and Rockingham counties.

Jewel Bronaugh, Virginia commissioner of agriculture and consumer services, would become the first woman of color to serve as the USDA deputy secretary if confirmed. Bronaugh is one of two African American members of the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture, which represents top officials at state and U.S. territorial departments.

DeChant is first and last a story-teller, an artist who writes with an urgency and sweet understanding of the people who stumble and keep on keeping on. She’s performed with Melissa Etheridge, Sheryl Crow, Stevie Nicks, Don Henry and others.
