WASHINGTON, May 25, 2021 /PRNewswire/ Today, more than 130 healthcare groups applauded the introduction of the Pharmacy and Medically Underserved Areas Enhancement Act (S. 1362, H.R. 2759), legislation that will ensure that Medicare beneficiaries in medically underserved areas have access to pharmacists primary care services.
In a letter sent to the bill s original sponsors Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA), Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Rep. G.K. Butterfield (D-NC), and Rep. David McKinley (R-WV) the healthcare groups, including rural health advocates, consumer groups, and pharmacy organizations, call for the removal of restrictions on seniors access to care.

On a recent morning, customers walking into the CVS Pharmacy at 2738 West Broad St. in Richmond were met with several pieces of information at the front entrance.
Two of them were related to COVID-19 vaccinations: First, shots were not yet available at this location (neither was testing for the coronavirus at this particular store). And second, to stay updated on the vaccine, people were encouraged to scan a QR code with their cellphones, pointing them to online resources.
In the days and weeks ahead, we hope the messaging describing whatâs not possible will change toward what is doable. With COVID-19 vaccines finally headed to a handful of local pharmacies, will this be the end of the lotterylike process?
Northam says new COVID virus variants now in Virginia
RICHMOND â CVS Pharmacy opened its online registration for COVID-19 vaccines early Tuesday, hours after announcing that it would not begin taking appointments for two days.
The national pharmacy chain said it opened the online portal to accommodate Virginia s concerns about giving first access to people who already had registered for vaccination with their local health districts. The state of Virginia asked us to open our scheduling system early for those who pre-registered for a vaccination through their local department of health, spokeswoman Amy Thibault said. We have accommodated this request and Virginians who pre-registered can now look for available appointments in our system.
