In an exclusive interview with the Daily Sun, Commerce Secretary Dr Md Jafar Uddin shared insights on the government’s strategies and ambitions regarding the country’s LDC graduation.

Despite some challenges, LDC graduation will create opportunities for Bangladesh and it has the capabilities to face the challenges, Commerce Secretary Dr Md Jafar Uddin has said.
“We are not frightened about LDC graduation as we have the potential and capacity for tapping those opportunities,” he told the Daily Sun on Wednesday in an exclusive interview.
TCB goods seized from grocery shop in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, April 30, 2021 (BSS)- Huge consumer goods of Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) were seized from a grocery shop in Reshampatti area of the city yesterday afternoon.
On a tip-off, a team of the Department of National Consumers Rights Protection (DNCRP) conducted a sudden raid in the shop owned by Mustaque Ahmed Kajal around 4.30 pm and seized the huge TCB goods.
“We’ve seized 1,520 liters of edible oil, 350 kilograms of sugar, 300-kg of lentil and 200-kg of chickpea after searching the shop,” said Hassan-Al-Maruf, assistant director of the DNCRP.
He said the goods were supposed to be sold in markets at higher prices instead of open market sales on trucks.
Commerce ministry to observe `Special Service Weekâ from April 30

DHAKA, April 29, 2021 (BSS) â The ministry of commerce will observe a special service week form April 30 to May 6 on the occasion of Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr.
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has directed all ministries to observe special service week to ensure uninterrupted services to the people, including price control of necessary commodities, during Ramadan and ahead of Eid.
The commerce ministry has instructed all the agencies under it to take special plans ahead of the special service week following directives from the PMO.
It has intensified market monitoring activities in the interest of maintaining the normal supply of essential commodities in the market ahead of the week.
Legal action will be taken after a hearing on his explanation, the DNCRP official said.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of DNCRP, assisted by the police, raided the house of Mostaque Ahmed around 5:00pm and found he stored TCB products at his house.
There is a grocery shop with Mostaque s house and the shop is run by his wife. We saw some of the TCB products stored at the grocery shop, the DNCRP official said.
Rajshahi Regional Office Chief of TCB Rabiul Morshed said, Mostaque was a listed dealer and was given the products more than a week ago.
E commerce to reach TCB products to homes of middle class families; Tipu

DHAKA, April 26, 2021 (BSS) – Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi today said that the fair price products of state-run Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) would be reached to the homes of middle class families through e commerce.
“TCB is selling essential items across the country through trucks at fair price. The government has taken decision to sell four essential items like edible oil, chickpeas, sugar and lentil so that the middle class families are not deprived of such facility,” he said.
The Commerce Minister was addressing the inaugural ceremony of the operations of “Mahe Ramjan e Ghore Boshe Shostir Bazar” organized by the E Commerce Association (e-CAB).
