Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi on Saturday suggested local apparel exporters to look for new export destinations to overcome the risks posed by the Covid-19 pandemic crisis.
“Bangladesh has to look for new markets including in the neighbouring countries for its diversified products including RMG that will help the country to recover from the crisis,” the commerce minister said while taking part in a virtual dialogue on RMG sector.
“The garment sector overcame the effects of the first wave of the COVID-19 to some extent but we’ve started to feel the impact following the 2nd wave,” he said further.
said that the government is trying to revive the country’s trade and
commerce, which was affected due to COVID-19 pandemic, through various
stimulus packages announced by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
In the medium-term, he suggested that Bangladesh should look for
new markets through product diversification.
The commerce minister said this while addressing a virtual dialogue
on “Recovery of the Apparels Sectors from the COVID-19 Crisis: Is a
Value Chain based Solution Possible?”.
The dialogue was organised by the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD)
in partnership with Southern Voice, said a CPD press release.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi on Wednesday said SMEs are the lifeline to the economy as its contribution to the country s GDP is about 26 percent.
He made the remark when newly-elected President of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) Rizwan Rahman met him at his Secretariat office. The two other leaders are DCCI Senior Vice President N K A Mobin, FCS, FCA and Vice President Monowar Hossain were also present in the meeting.
During the meeting, the Commerce Minister urged all to work together for development of the SMEs sector further, said a DCCI release.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said on Monday SMEs are the lifeline of Bangladesh’s economy contributing about 26 percent to the country’s GDP.
“The global economic dimension has changed a lot. In order to sustain in the international market with an access to diversified export, we need to conduct more institutional research,” he said while meeting with Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) President Rizwan Rahman at his secretariat office in the city, said a press release.
To be more competitive in the export market, he said, the government will support all potential sectors.
Removal of barriers to raise Bangladesh-India trade ties: Tipu Munshi

Bilateral trade between India and Bangladesh can be increased further, if necessary steps are taken to remove the existing trade bottlenecks, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said on Monday.
“India is a trusted friend of Bangladesh and deeper trade and economic ties are prevalent between the two countries. But there is still ample opportunity for enhancing the ongoing bilateral trade,” he remarked as Indian High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami called on him at his office.
In particular, he put stress on bilateral discussion on removing non-tariff barriers and improving customs management at the borders to this end, says a commerce ministry release.
