Firefighters rescue snowmobiler who broke through ice in Commerce Township

(WXYZ) â Firefighters rescued a snowmobiler who broke through the ice on the north end of N. Commerce Lake Wednesday evening.
Firefighters, Oakland County Sheriff s deputies and local EMS crews were called to the area around 9 p.m. when a resident on Creedmore Street reported that a snowmobiler drove out onto the lake, broke through the thin ice and was crying for help.
First responders rescued the victim from the lake; the victim was reportedly in good condition.
Officials say the victim was extremely lucky because the snowmobile went through the ice in a fairly shallow area of the lake.

An explosion in an unattached Commerce Township garage containing a butane hash oil laboratory is suspected to be the cause of a fire that injured one person on Bass Lake Road on Saturday, according to a press release issued by the Oakland County Sheriff s Office on Monday.

The Sheriff s Office and the Commerce Township Fire Department responded to the garage fire, where they found a man, standing at the edge of the residence, with severe burns to his face, upper torso and lower arms.
In September, an explosion and fire destroyed another Commerce Township house on the 3000 block of Abutus Street.
In a similar manner, officials said the house was a marijuana growing operation, and highly-flammable tanks of butane gas exploded and caused the fire, the Free Press reports.
Fire officials said the explosion was so powerful that it blew large bits of shrapnel across the street, and officials rescued two men in their 20s from the fire.
