Bayelsa Assembly backs labour position on minimum wage law On By Samuel Oyadongha THE Bayelsa State House of Assembly has thrown its weight behind the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) opposition to the move by the House of Representatives to scuttle the minimum wage law. Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Rt Hon Abraham Ingobere made this known Wednesday when leaders of the unions led their members to the assembly complex to present a letter to the House. Ingobere, represented by Ebiowou Koku-Obiyal, representing Yenagoa Constituency II a former NLC state chairman, assured that the legislature would do the needful when the bill got to them.

Minimum Wage: We re returning to slave wages era, says Kano Labour unions

By Bashir Bello – Kano The Organized Labour unions of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC and Trade Union Congress, TUC in Kano State on Wednesday said the National Assembly’s move to remove Minimum wage from the exclusive to the concurrent legislative list if granted will serve as a licence to state Governors to drag and return the country back to the era of ridiculous slave wages. The State NLC Chairman, Comrade Kabiru Ado Minjibir stated this when he led the Nigerian workers to the state house of assembly in compliance with to nationwide protest directive and to also seek the support of the lawmakers to kick against the move.

NLC, TUC Take Protest to National Assembly over Minimum Wage

By Udora Orizu Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), Wednesday protested at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja, demanding that the lawmakers should kill the Bill seeking to move the minimum wage from the Exclusive Legislative list to the Concurrent list to allow states determine minimum wage based on capacity. The angry protesters carried placards with inscriptions such as, ”On National Minimum Wage We Stand”, “Kill the Bill”, “No To Minimum Wage on Concurrent List, Yes To Minimum Wage on Exclusive List” and “Shame on Garba Datti.” The House of Representatives had on February 23, despite opposing views from some lawmakers passed for second reading a Bill seeking to amend the 1999 constitution to allow states determine minimum wage.
