CAMPAIGN: Members of the union protesting for a peaceful resolution on Saturday (May 22) A TRADES union from Worcester has appealed to the UK government to take action against the violence in the middle east amidst announcements of a ceasefire from the Israeli government. Worcester Trades Union Council (WTUC) has called for “a lasting peace between Palestine and Israel” and is asking the UK government to use it’s resources to put a stop against any excessive use of violence between the two countries. A statement from the union said: “Whilst the ceasefire provides some respite from the recent violence, WTUC recognises the need for a lasting peace between Palestine and Israel, one that is consistent with international law and respects equality and human rights. WTUC calls on the UK government to use all means available to stop the escalation of violence against Palestinians”.

Derry Trades Union Council (DTUC) has launched a local workers survey and has encouraged workers across the council area to complete it in order to build better workplaces.
Chair of DTUC, Niall McCarroll, says that as a working class movement DTUC has provided a voice for workers and social justice campaigns.
It aims to further reach out with the launch of a local workers survey, as it extends its solidarity with the people of Derry and District demanding an end to the many hardships which workers and their families experience and have experienced for far too long .

Plaques marking ground-breaking visits to Derry by two highly revered women’s rights activists more than a century ago have been unveiled in the city’s historic St Columb’s Hall.
The Grade A listed building also known as ‘The People’s Hall,’ was the venue of choice for some of the world’s most iconic performers and notaries after it was built in 1886.
But how many people nowadays know that its remarkable guests included both Emmeline Pankhurst and Eleanor Marx?

Another Kill the Bill protest is taking place in Plymouth today, which will be the third the city has seen so far.
People will be gathering at Charles Cross Police Station at around 2pm in order to protest against a legislation which will make any protest which is a public nuisance eligible for police action.
Today s protest also falls in line with International Workers Day, and there will be a rally alongside the protest which will also call to stop the Police Crime Sentencing and Courts Bill.
