Worcester Trades Council calls for lasting peace between Palestine and Israel

CAMPAIGN: Members of the union protesting for a peaceful resolution on Saturday (May 22) A TRADES union from Worcester has appealed to the UK government to take action against the violence in the middle east amidst announcements of a ceasefire from the Israeli government. Worcester Trades Union Council (WTUC) has called for “a lasting peace between Palestine and Israel” and is asking the UK government to use it’s resources to put a stop against any excessive use of violence between the two countries. A statement from the union said: “Whilst the ceasefire provides some respite from the recent violence, WTUC recognises the need for a lasting peace between Palestine and Israel, one that is consistent with international law and respects equality and human rights. WTUC calls on the UK government to use all means available to stop the escalation of violence against Palestinians”.

Chair of DTUC, Niall McCarroll, says that as a working class movement DTUC has provided a voice for workers and social justice campaigns. It aims to further reach out with the launch of a local workers survey, as it extends its solidarity with the people of Derry and District demanding an end to the many hardships which workers and their families experience and have experienced for far too long .
