Father of mentally ill man who died after well-being call files federal lawsuit against Leominster police
WORCESTER The father of a mentally ill Leominster man who died after a well-being call to his home in 2018, has filed a federal lawsuit alleging that undertrained officers botched the call and that Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. conducted a charade investigation.
“Within minutes the officers transformed (a) wellness check into a death sentence,” Hector E. Pineiro, the lawyer representing the father of 39-year-old Kris Mailloux, alleged in a suit filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Worcester.
Mailloux died several days after two officers responding to a well-being call restrained him on the floor of his grandmother’s home at 384 West St. on Jan. 14, 2018.
OXFORD A 55-year-old woman was hit by a car and died Wednesday night at Main Street and Fairlawn Avenue, according to Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.
The victim was identified as Wendy Hibbard. She appeared to have been crossing the road when she was struck, Early said Thursday.
No charges have been filed. The name of the driver was not released.
The crash, which occurred at about 7:15 p.m., remains under investigation by Oxford police, the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council reconstruction team and the Worcester District Attorney’s Office.
55-year-old Wendy Hibbard, struck, killed by car in Oxford as she attempted to cross Main Street

Authorities identified the woman as Wendy Hibbard of Oxford.
Oxford police responded to a crash at Main Street and Fairlawn Avenue at around 7:15 p.m., authorities said.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said Hibbard appeared to be crossing Main Street when she was hit by a car.
No charges have been filed, authorities said. The name of the driver was not released.
The crash remains under investigation by Oxford Police, the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council reconstruction team and the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.
Kristen A. Carey, 37, and Keith M. Cuthbertson, 49, were found dead in Cuthbertson’s condominium.
Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. publicly identified the couple Tuesday. Both lived at 28 Southbridge Road, Unit 306.
Cuthbertson is the owner of the condominium, according to town records.
Earlier, officials said emergency responders located a man, since identified as Cuthbertson, dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
A woman, now identified as Carey, was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds, according to officials. Medical assistance was rendered but she later died from her injuries.
Charlton police and EMS responded to a 911 call about 7:15 p.m. from 28 Southbridge Road reporting that an argument between a couple had occurred in a bedroom.
Suspect in killing of landlord in Barre indicted on murder charge
WORCESTER A 71-year-old Barre man has been indicted on charges related to the shooting death of his landlord on Town Farm Road in September.
Robert Leger of 113 Town Farm Road has been held without bail since Sept. 4, the day of the shooting. Prosecutors believe Leger shot and killed Michael J. Hannon, 65, of the same address. Hannon was Leger s landlord, according to court documents.
Leger s case will move to the jurisdiction of Worcester Superior Court.
He has been indicted by a Worcester County grand jury on charges of murder, possession of a firearm without a firearms identification card, possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, failure to secure a firearm, possession of ammunition without a firearms identification card, and possession of a rifle or shotgun without a firearms identification card.
