Missed hospital appointments cost £3m in Worcs

Worcestershire Royal Hospital WORCESTERSHIRE Acute Hospitals Trust potentially lost more than £3 million due to thousands of missed appointments through the pandemic, figures show. The failed appointments waste time and heap pressure on consultants who already face “extraordinary demand” due to the virus, says the British Medical Association. NHS Digital data shows that in the 11 months from April last year, there were 19,865 outpatient appointments which people did not show up for. It means out of 514,220 booked sessions, 4% were unattended. And with the average outpatient appointment costing £160 – as estimated by several NHS trusts – the no-shows may have cost Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust around £3.2 million.

DATA: The latest Covid death figures THERE have been no newly-recorded coronavirus deaths in Worcestershire s hospitals. The latest NHS England figures released today (April 23) show no new deaths recorded in the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, meaning its figure remains at 805. There have also been no new deaths in the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, with its figure remaining at 63. In total, there have been 868 Covid deaths in county hospitals and at least 1,347 in all settings. The Acute Hospitals Trust covers Worcestershire Royal Hospital, as well as the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch and Kidderminster Hospital. The Health and Care NHS trust covers community hospitals and rehabilitation wards, including Worcester City Impatient Unit, Malvern Community Hospital, Evesham Community Hospital, Pershore Community Hospital, the Princess of Wales Community Hospital in Bromsgrove, Tenbury Community Hospital and the Wyre Forest Ward.

Parents Lauren and Jack Mountain had been shocked to learn at their 12 week scan they not not only expecting their first child - but their first three. They were overjoyed when their incredibly rare trio of boys arrived safely into the world after being delivered by emergency C-section.

There have been no further deaths at Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, with its total staying at 63. The newly announced death means in total there have 868 Covid-19 deaths in county hospitals. And in all settings, including hospices and care homes, there have been 1,347 deaths.
