New paving work at Market Place in Redditch begins

WORKS to revamp Market Place in Redditch with new paving have now officially started. It s part of the Town Centre Improvement Programme, which aims to boost the local economy and make the historic centre look more attractive to visitors. The works include a full refresh of the paving at the junction of Evesham Walk & Market Place & down to Mercian Square. The paving will then link with previous improvement works on Alcester Street and Church Green East. As part of the scheme, works will also take place to replace the central drainage channel on Evesham Walk. Councillor Ken Pollock, Worcestershire County Council s Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Economy and Infrastructure, said: “The aim of the works is to help boost the local economy by making it more attractive for businesses and visitors – something that is always important but especially so during these difficult times.

Major improvement works in Kidderminster complete

WORK to improve transport links in the Churchfields area of Kidderminster are now complete. The completion of this important scheme, delivered by Worcestershire County Council, is a key milestone in the longer-term plan to introduce much needed housing in this part of the town. Councillor Ken Pollock, Worcestershire County Council s Cabinet Member with responsibility for economy and infrastructure, said: It’s great news that these works are now finished, and the transformation of the area is visible for everyone to see. “The improvements made to the transport links will not only help to tackle congestion and improve traffic flow, they’re also an extremely important step towards further investment and much needed housing in the area.”

Worcester Uni graduate helped in her dream career by council grant

SUPPORT: Emily Bratt, Drone Prep A NUMBER of graduates have been hired in recent months thanks to grants from Worcestershire County Council that were launched to help businesses recover from the effects of COVID-19. Among those graduates is Emily Bratt, who recently received a first-class degree in Geography from the University of Worcester and has since been hired by local tech start-up, DronePrep. Based on Malvern Hills Science Park, DronePrep offers technology and consultancy services to allow drone pilots to search for landowners to find places to fly responsibly. Despite needing Emily’s skills, the DronePrep team could not afford to employ her full time until they discovered Worcestershire County Council’s Here2Help Graduate Development grant.

Here are the roadworks in Worcestershire still being done during lockdown

MAJOR roadwork projects across Worcestershire will continue during the coronavirus lockdown. Worcestershire County Council announced schemes including the dualling of the Southern Link Road from the M5 to Powick Roundabout, and the Pershore infrastructure scheme are still going ahead amid the disruption caused by the pandemic. This comes after the completion of work including the Hams Way footbridge and Pump Street in Worcester. Work is also continuing on the road improvements through St John’s and on the re-opening of Sabrina Bridge, which was pushed back after flooding in Worcester before Christmas.
