Covid-19 testing at Worcestershire schools in new year

A CHILDREN S organisation and the county council are welcoming a roll out of Coronavirus testing for secondary age pupils. Both organisations will work with schools to support them, whilst utilising public health data to ensure that they are able to make informed decisions about the right option for their school. Catherine Driscoll, chief executive of Worcestershire Children First, said: “We recognise that for some of our schools this is a complex task due to staffing, logistics and a tight timescale. To help plan for these changes we can confirm that most schools in Worcestershire have opted to take up the Government’s offer of an additional INSET day on 4th January.

Tackling holiday hunger in Worcestershire this Christmas

Malvern Hills District Council says it is committed to tackling holiday hunger this Christmas. More than £53,000 from the Government’s Winter Covid-19 Grant has been made available to voluntary and charitable organisations working with those in need and will be distributed through Worcestershire Community First. Cllr Sarah Rouse, Leader of Malvern Hills District Council, said: “We don’t want anyone to go hungry or cold, especially at this time of the year. That’s why we are doing all we can, along with our partners, to support those in need during this pandemic and to recover from its impact long-term.”
