Ex-GM Brodie Van Wagenen doesn’t hold a grudge: ‘I’ll always be a Mets homer’

It’s been an interesting offseason for Brodie Van Wagenen.
In November, he was fired as general manager of the New York Mets following the completion of the sale of the club to Steve Cohen.
Two months later, Van Wagenen was back in sports agent business, landing with Roc Nation Sports as COO of Jay-Z’s company.
But Van Wagenen doesn’t bear any ill will toward the Mets, despite having just two years on the job in Queens. He made that quite clear during an interview Sunday with MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM.
Billionaire hedge fund manager Steve Cohen bought the New York Mets in November. Since then, the team has signed free-agent catcher James McCann and traded for shortstop Francisco Lindor.
New York Yankees target second baseman DJ LeMahieu is "dismayed" with the free-agent process and wants much than the $92 million Josh Donaldson received from the Minnesota Twins, according to Yahoo!'s Tim Brown.

The club still hasn’t been able to re-sign DJ LeMahieu or improve the rotation and bullpen. What should the Pinstripes’ other offseason priorities be? Let’s take a closer look at their most pressing needs for 2021.

They say they can’t stand each other. It’s unclear if it’s actually true, but as rumor has it, Trevor Bauer and Gerrit Cole have some beef dating back to their days in UCLA. The former has adamantly denied those claims, but that’s to be expected, as his market would be affected if he eliminated the Yankees as a potential landing spot.

While the back-and-forth between the Yankees and DJ LeMahieu feels like America’s longest-running drama since “Law & Order,” the truth is, it’s still technically early in the offseason.
For the last, say, five years, most of the big-time free agent deals have happened in January and February. And with the prospect of the coronaviruspushing back spring training and Opening Day, there’s even less of a reason for teams and players to rush into pacts.
