Young women are being urged to consider a career in resources as diversity and inclusion continues to be encouraged across the industry.
Queensland Resources Council welcomed Resources Minister Scott Stewart at a special female-only âTradies for a Dayâ workshop in Moranbah on Tuesday.
Mr Stewart was on hand to encourage 20 female students from Moranbah State High School at a workshop run from the QRCâs Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy to encourage them to consider a career as a âtradieâ in the resources sector.
QRC chief executive Ian Macfarlane said there was much local interest in the Anglo American supported girls-only workshop.
Aussie Residents Outraged by Chinese Developer’s Restrictive Access of Keswick Island
Residents of Keswick Island, an island off the northeast coast of Queensland, have expressed opposition and concerns over restrictive access and mismanagement by a Chinese developer, claiming a breach in the terms of the lease.
A petition to call on the Queensland government to rescind China Bloom’s leasehold, as well as a protest that occurred on Jan. 26, are among some avenues residents have taken to express their concerns over a growing list of restricted access and activities enforced by the Chinese developer.
China Bloom, a Hong-Kong based company that was registered in 2018, took over the head lease of Keswick Island in March 2019. The company purchased a 99-year lease on 20 percent of the island, while the remaining 80 percent is owned by the Queensland government.

More than 160 jobs and $50 million in goods and services are up for grabs as a North Queensland gold mine ramps up its expansion efforts.
Speaking today from Bohle-based fabricators Thomas Steel, Resources Minister Scott Stewart said the Ravenswood Gold project would bring on an additional 60 permanent positions and more than 100 construction jobs this year.
“The Ravenswood Gold project is a gold standard of the positive economic contribution a mine can bring to the regions,” Mr Stewart said.
“Just short of two years ago the Palaszczuk Government approved new mining leases and paved the way for the $300 million extension of the Ravenswood Gold Mine.

The Palaszczuk government ground to a halt $92 million in IT projects as part of a penny-pinching program to hunt for savings amid the coronavirus pandemic.
But the savings may be short-lived, with IT projects to be restarted on a case-by-case basis.

Treasurer Cameron Dick announced a six-month freeze on new, non-essential IT projects in July last year, as part of a plan to save $3 billion over four years.
That six-month freeze is due to expire on Saturday.
New projects related to critical safety or cybersecurity were excluded from the freeze.
