SPARTA continues to upskill Pinoys in DSA, releases more free online courses

PASIG CITY, Mar. 5 Project Smarter Philippines through Data Analytics R&D, Training and Adoption (SPARTA) continues to fulfill its mission of furthering the data science and analytics (DSA) ecosystem in the country by releasing more courses in its second year of implementation. Based on the recent data, the project has now 18 courses on the Coursebank website which learners can access for free through a DOST scholarship. The eighteen available SPARTA courses are comprised of 17 DSA courses and one FOI course. The FOI 101 or Freedom of Information: An Introduction was developed by the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO), through the Freedom of Information Project Management Office (FOI-PMO), and was made possible by the Memorandum of Understanding between PCOO and the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP).

Amid new perils pressing on farming and fishing, PCIC steps up to the plate

QUEZON CITY, March 3 The series of extreme weather events that has become a yearly problem and a vicious animal infection has thrown the huge burden of managing the widespread risk to farming and fishing on the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC). But having been created to lower the risks to investments of agricultural producers,  the four-decade old agency has been primed for the times and stepping up to the plate. PCIC has broadened its reach among farmers and fisherfolk.  Results of its 2020 operations show that some 3.09 million farmers and fisherfolk have enrolled in its insurance programs last year. The insured includes some 1.28 million rice farmers,   nearly 426,000 corn farmers, about 285,000 high value crop farmers,   more than 370,000  livestock and poultry farmers,  and  more than 47,000 fisherfolk.

ITRMC, DAP-GSPDM ink partnership on future of health in the Ilocos

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union Feb 28 (PIA) – The Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center (ITRMC) and the Development Academy of the Philippines-Graduate School of Public Development Management (DAP-GSPDM) inked a partnership through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on the future of health in the Ilocos Region on February 2, here.   The signing of the MOA aims to create a Center for Health Systems and Development which is anchored on the Universal Health Care (UHC) Act, and to assist in the praxis of health systems and development through the establishment of ladderized programs and other development mechanisms of ITRMC.   According to ITRMC Medical Center Chief Dr. Eduardo Badua III, “This partnership will entail us to become a center for knowledge co-creation and innovations in health systems and development, which is the first of its kind in the country.”
