For a year, two sisters and their five children have languished in a neglected, Hartford apartment despite numerous complaints about the cockroach infestation, heat and power outages, broken appliances and other issues. The poor conditions they've lived with are all too common.

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CA The Rancho Santa Margarita Planning Commission met Wednesday to discuss state-mandated changes for adding Accessory Dwelling Units or granny flats to the city s municipal code. The city s current municipal code is out of date after California state law s new passage in 2020.
Last year, California changed the laws regarding property additions and separate living apartments. Each unit is complete with independent living facilities on the same property as a primary residence and repurposes space that is not currently living space. These additions are to be prohibited as short-term rental units, according to the new guidelines.

As the Edmonds Citizens Housing Commission concludes this Thursday, the Alliance of Citizens for Edmonds (ACE) thanks the Commissioners and alternate Commissioners, for volunteering their time, committing to this aspirational process. Understandably, the process was made more difficult for all involved due to Covid-19 restrictions, mandating virtual meetings and eliminating the original promise of neighborhood meetings throughout all of Edmonds.
The Commission did, however, offer one in-person Open House and survey before Covid restrictions, followed by 3 more surveys combined with 3 prerecorded virtual Open House viewing options and one Zoom Webinar. ACE followed with optimism and high hopes this 16-month process. However, we are concerned that input the Commission received at each public engagement touchpoint, in the form of hundreds of questions, comments, emails and feedback from local folks, was disregarded.
