Lena Walker accepts a present from great-great-granddaughter Harper Dhillon (2) at her 109th birthday. “I always laugh and people always say, ‘you laugh too much’. My sister used to say, ‘stop that noise’ because she was older than me,” Walker said. She was believed to be the oldest living Kiwi born in New Zealand, with just two Kiwis older than her born in Canada and the United Kingdom respectively. Evelyn “Lena” Wilkinson was born on June 11, 1912, in the small Horowhenua town of Shannon.

An average rainfall in Whangārei for the month of July was 198mm, Little said. “It’s a bit more than I thought, but the amount of rain that has already fallen at some stations is essentially half a month’s rainfall.”
Rosa Woods/Stuff In the 18 hours to 10am, Kerikeri Airport’s weather station recorded 53mm. “It is certainly significant and will no doubt lead to surface flooding, and streams and rivers will rise quite rapidly.” Little said he wasn’t aware of any specific flooding events in the area as of 10.30am, but said he “wouldn’t be surprised” by any flooding.
While the investigation is in its “early stages”, police believe there is a connection between the two parties involved, and officers are speaking to a person who is “assisting us with our enquiries”. Dalzell said police had located two vehicles of interest, and were appealing for sightings of them in the lead-up to the incident, in a bid to piece together what happened. The first is a silver Toyota Camry, registration CLQ142, which was seen in the Puketona Road area the previous evening. The second is a silver Honda Accord, registration FEW685.
