A temporary security camera will be installed at Lake Ōkareka boat ramp as a deterrent after recent gang activity in the area. Lake users made a hasty retreat from the area on Sunday afternoon after rival gangs clashed at the boat ramp, resulting in a shot being fired from a firearm into the air.
Police have confirmed they were called to a firearms incident at the lake and were making inquiries. They said they were yet to determine if the incident was gang-related.

Rotorua residents are being advised not to swim or play in Lake Rotorua after a wastewater leak.
A leak in a wastewater main near the Parawai Rd pump station on Tuesday night is being blamed for the incident.
It is thought around 80 cubic metres of wastewater may have entered the lake, Rotorua Lake Council said.

This will make the reef a prime place for marine research for academics. It will also make the spot popular for divers wanting to see a biodiverse reef..
