An outreach clinic in Ōpōtiki has been labeled ‘phenomenally successful’ by organisers looking to reduce barriers to healthcare in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.
“One of the main aims of an outreach clinic such as this was to reduce the barriers to healthcare, improve patient access and subsequent health outcomes,” said Bay of Plenty District Health Board (BOPDHB) Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Clinical Nurse Specialist Jeannie Bruning.

An outreach clinic in Ōpōtiki has been labeled
‘phenomenally successful’ by organisers looking to
reduce barriers to healthcare in the Eastern Bay of
Plenty.
“One of the main aims of an outreach clinic
such as this was to reduce the barriers to healthcare,
improve patient access and subsequent health outcomes,”
said Bay of Plenty District Health Board (BOPDHB) Ear, Nose
and Throat (ENT) Clinical Nurse Specialist Jeannie
Bruning.
“After much planning and preparation, a
phenomenally successful ENT clinic was held at Ōpōtiki
Community Health Centre. The attendance to this first,
predominantly paediatric, clinic was outstanding and there

Local Government Minister Nanaia Mahuta will virtually join a Smartgrowth leadership group meeting today.
Smartgrowth, a sub-regional partnership of three councils - Tauranga City, Western Bay of Plenty District and Bay of Plenty Regional - tangata whenua and the Bay of Plenty District Health Board formed an urban growth partnership with the Government in August.
The 15-year-old collective also agreed to invite up to three ministers to join the group, with voting rights.
The ministers were to be appointed after the election and were expected to be those with portfolios involving local government, urban development or the like, given Smartgrowth s remit to manage joined-up, long-term growth planning.

Bay of Plenty District Health Board is keen to work more closely with Māori communities to improve health outcomes.
It has received almost $300,000 in collaboration grants from the Health Research Council for a series of projects to integrate technology, promote wellbeing among Māori, and develop skills in kaupapa Māori research methods.
Research manager Charlie Stratton says they re looking for evidence that will improve delivery of services, especially for Māori and rural communities. There s a gap in our knowledge about how communities, especially rural communities and Māori communities in our region access health care systems, so the grants are really looking at how we can work with those communities to better the integrated health model, he says.
