EUP students receive Principals Award

EUP students receive Principals Award The winners of the 2021 Eastern Upper Peninsula Principals’ Awards have been announced. In order to be eligible for this award, students need to have a 3.3 grade point average or higher, a 24 on the ACT or a 1180 on the SAT and be a graduate of an Eastern Upper Peninsula high school. These students are recognized at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. In previous years, students needed to achieve an SAT score of 1200 in addition to the other requirements in order to receive this award. Local students include those from Brimley, Cedarville, Ojibwe Charter School, Rudyard, Pickford, St. Ignace, Engadine, Newberry, Whitefish, Mackinac Island and the Sault.

College Fund Honors Students of the Year, Coca Cola Scholars, and Honoree of the Year

President Cory Sangrey-Billy of Stone Child College has been named the American Indian College Fund’s Honoree of the Year. The American Indian College Fund will honor 35 Tribal College and University Students of the Year, 36 Coca Cola First Generation Scholars, and its 2020-21 Tribal College and University Honoree of the Year at a virtual ceremony on April 5. Coca-Cola First Generation Scholarships are awarded by the American Indian College Fund and the Coca-Cola Foundation to students who are the first in their families to attend a tribal college or university. The Coca-Cola Foundation has awarded more than $5 million to the College Fund since 1990 to assist more than 400 first-generation Native Americans in their college education. The scholarship is renewable throughout students’ college careers if they maintain a 3.0 grade point average and are active in campus and community life.

BMCC’s Early Childhood Education Program Recognized April 20, 2021 Academics at Bay Mills Community College (BMCC) continue to be spotlighted for their success. This time, the Early Childhood Education (ECE) program is being recognized by intelligent.com as one of the top online programs for 2021. Intelligent.com analyzed 144 schools, on a scale of 0 to 100, with only 60 making it to the final list for online early childhood education degree programs. Each program is evaluated based on curriculum quality, graduation rate, reputation, and post-graduate employment. The methodology also uses an algorithm which collects and analyzes multiple rankings into one score to easily compare each school.
