Bay County’s test positivity rate was nearly 18% as of Thursday, April , according to the health department. High case rates are appearing in the Thumb region, with Huron, Sanilac, and Tuscola counties all reporting test positivity rates at or above 30% according tot he Bay County Health Department. BAY CITY, MI Distributors in Bay County are continuing to roll out the COVID-19 vaccine as cases rise in the region.
“The hospital has a significant amount of cases, the ICU is up in cases. We’re seeing deaths again. It’s going to be a pretty rough couple of weeks coming up,” said Joel Strasz, health officer with the Bay County Health Department.

Michigan’s first case of Brazilian COVID-19 variant in found in Bay County

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) notified the Bay County Health Department that the MDHHS Bureau of Laboratories identified the P.1 Brazilian variant in a Bay County resident and it is the first known case in the State of Michigan, as of Thursday, April 1.

BAY CITY, MI - A second variant of the COVID-19 virus has been identified in Bay County, according to local health authorities.
The Bay County Health Department issued a press release on Thursday April 1 stating that the P.1 Brazilian variant of the COVID-19 virus was recently identified in the county.
