A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crew rescued a 21-year-old hiker who fell from the cliffs above Nellies Cove near Port Orford on Monday evening. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector North Bend received a request for assistance from Curry County dispatch around 6:30 p.m. on Monday evening. According to dispatch, the hiker had fallen and sustained multiple injuries that needed emergency medical attention.

The pedestrian was taken to Bay Area Hospital after being evaluated by medical personnel at the scene. Police said the driver and passenger of the involved vehicle remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.
