GMU Virtual Global Day 2021: 86 nationalities come together

Gulf Medical University (GMU)’s Global Day on 15 March saw students and staff from 86 countries come together to celebrate their cultural diversity.
The event, organized by the Student Affairs Department of GMU (owned by Thumbay Group), was held virtually this year and saw more than 1000 students, staff and their families and friends attend.
Chief Guest Prof. Hossam Hamdy, Chancellor of GMU, said the Global Day helped reinforce the university’s ‘Unity in Diversity’ ethos, with diverse healthcare professions expressing their diverse cultures and learning from one another. Students exhibited food and costumes showcasing their culture and history.

The annual Global Day celebrations organized by the Student Affairs Department of Gulf Medical University (GMU) owned by the Thumbay Group– a leading medical university in the region-were celebrated virtually with a limited audience in person, on March 15.
Organized every year to appreciate the cultural diversity of the students and staff of GMU, the event was a convergence of culture and traditions of the 86 nationalities that form the student cohort of GMU.

In support of the UAE government’s fight against Covid-19, the Thumbay Group has conducted several educational and healthcare awareness programmes during the last 10 months.
They have benefited more than 100,000 professionals and the general public. The strategy combined technology utilisation, safety precautions, awareness programmes, training and confidence-building.

Thumbay Medicity, a regional hub of medical education, healthcare and research built by Thumbay Group, recently hosted a team of 50 PG students from the S P Jain School of Global Management who are pursuing the Global Family Managed Business Programme in India.
They visited Thumbay Medicity and toured Gulf Medical University, Thumbay Dental Hospital, Thumbay Rehab Hospital and Thumbay University Hospital at the Thumbay Medicity as a part of their field visit.
Chancellor Prof. Hossam Hamdy hosted a discourse and presentation, while the students had the privilege to meet Dr Thumbay Moideen, founder-president of Thumbay Group, and have a one-on-one discussion about his journey, along with leadership insights on becoming a successful entrepreneur.
