Point Fortin mayor in quarantine Point Fortin Mayor Saleema McCree - POINT Fortin mayor Saleema McCree is now in quarantine, having been exposed to a covid19-positive contact McCree Thomas, the mother of two, confirmed to Newsday that she is at home and has been isolated from the rest of her family since Wednesday. She is the third public official in the last week to have gone into isolation. Former president Anthony Carmona and his daughter tested positive last week and, earlier this week, Attorney General Faris Al-Rawi also went into quarantine. The Prime Minister came out of quarantine early this week after testing negative for the virus he contracted around Easter.

Photo by Angelo Marcelle HEALTH Minister Terrence Deyalsingh says the Bar Association’s proposal to the government of a temporary ban on all alcohol consumption in public spaces is, at this point, a “non-starter.” In a statement last Friday, the association said bar owners cannot control drinking outside their premises, and proposed a 60-day legal ban on all public consumption of alcohol. It said, “If food and alcohol consumption are deemed high risk at controlled legal business establishments, then it should be deemed an even greater risk in public spaces where there’s no measure of control.”

In ruling on Monday, Justice Joan Charles said there was neither a legislative nor a policy framework in place for  repatriating nationals from conflict/war zones. Nor does the minister have the legal power or discretion to repatriate or facilitate the repatriation of these nationals, she said.
