California to join case against Google
SACRAMENTO (AP) California is seeking to join the Justice Department in its antitrust lawsuit against Google parent Alphabet Inc., one of the state s largest businesses.
State Attorney General Xavier Becerra filed the motion to join the case in federal court on Friday.
The suit said Google used exclusionary agreements to lock up the search engine market by requiring it to be the default search engine for mobile devices and computers. The complaint called out its long-term agreement with Apple to be the default search engine on iOS devices. It also said Google used agreements prohibiting the pre-installation of any competing search services.
California seeks no changes to the suit other than to add its name to those litigating against the search and advertising giant.
California Attorney General Xavier Becerra accused Google of rigging the advertising market. This lawsuit paves the way for search engine innovation with greater regard for privacy and data protection, he said in a statement posted Friday.

Santa Clara County released new COVID-19 quarantine guidance on Monday, which shortens the length of quarantine from 14 to 10 days. The new guidance applies to both close contacts of COVID-19 cases and those subject to the county s mandatory travel quarantine. We constantly want to take into account all the best science we have, said Dr. Sarah Rudman, assistant health officer and director of case investigation and contact tracing. We feel the science that the CDC shared with us over the last several weeks confirmed by the California Department of Public Health s review tells us there is a minimum loss of safety by making the change from 14 to 10 days. Essentially, the new guidelines are about finding the balance between the benefit of quarantining and the benefit of getting people back to school or work, Rudman said.

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra on Monday asked a judge to order Amazon to comply with subpoenas his office issued nearly four months ago as part of an investigation into how the company is protecting workers from the coronavirus at its facilities.
Becerra said the online sales giant hasn’t provided enough information on its coronavirus safety steps and the status of infections and deaths at its shipping facilities across California.
