PUTRAJAYA: The Court of Appeal (COA) today allowed the appeal by the Kelantan government to strike out a Federal government’s lawsuit, ruling that the Federal government has no locus standi (legal standing) to file a legal action on behalf of the Temiar Orang Asli tribe over customary land dispute in Pos Simpor, Gua Musang.
Justice Datuk Lau Bee Lan, who led a three-member panel, in a unanimous decision, said there is no provision in the Federal Constitution or any written law which recognises the locus standi of the Federal government to sue on behalf of the aboriginal peoples.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 10 The High Court here today granted former Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Mohd Zaid Ibrahim’s application to obtain documents from legal firm Zaid Ibrahim & Co (ZICO) for his civil action against the law firm partners.
Mohd Zaid’s counsel Datuk Malik Imtiaz Sarwar said the decision was delivered by Judge Datuk Akhtar Tahir via Zoom application.

LUMPUR: Umno is proposing to the government that the Parliament and State Legislative Assemblies reconvene during the Emergency, said Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.
He said the matter was decided at the Umno Supreme Council meeting today which was also in line with the statement of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah who expressed the view that the Parliament can convene during an Emergency.
Ahmad said the primary rationale considered on the matter included that the government cannot be seen as attempting to impede the practice of parliamentary democracy.
