A law that bans transgender Arkansans younger than 18 from accessing transition-related health care, has been blocked from becoming law.
U.S. District Judge Jay Moody issued the ruling Wednesday blocking the enforcement of Act 626, which would have been gone into effect on July 28. The act blocks any transgender child from seeking or accessing health care related to their transition, such as puberty blockers, even with consent from parents or medical professionals.
The ACLU filed the lawsuit in May on the behalf of four Arkansas transgender youth and their families as well as two medical professionals in Arkansas who treat transgender youth.

(Reuters) â A federal judge on Wednesday barred the state of Arkansas, at least for now, from enforcing a first-in-the-nation law that would ban doctors from providing puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones or gender transition surgeries to minors.
U.S. District Judge James Moody issued the temporary injunction in response to a legal challenge filed by the Arkansas chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union. The law was set to take effect July 28.
âThis ruling sends a clear message to states across the country that gender-affirming care is life-saving care, and we wonât let politicians in Arkansas â or anywhere else â take it away,â Holly Dickson, executive director of ACLU of Arkansas, said in a written statement.
