Special Investigations Bureau detectives discovered multiple videos that appeared to depict Coughlin having sexual intercourse with unconscious women.
The District Attorney’s Office issued the following statement:
“District Attorney Joyce Dudley stated that the defendant was indisputably a rapist who preyed upon extremely vulnerable victims. Dudley expressed her deep appreciation and admiration for the prosecutors in this case, Megan Chanda and Michelle Mossembekker, as well as members of the Santa Barbara County Sheriff s Department. Dudley also stated that but for the bravery of the testifying victims/survivors, this defendant would never have been prosecuted.”
“Now, as a result of all of their collective efforts, the defendant will no longer be able to prey upon any more victims,” Dudley said.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. A Goleta woman was honored as California s 24th District Woman of the Year on Friday afternoon in Santa Barbara.
During the ceremony, Congressman Salud Carbajal presented Sylvia Uribe with the award at the Santa Barbara Courthouse.
She was honored with a commemorative pin and a framed copy of a written tribute in front of her family and friends. It was a complete surprise when I got a call from Mr. Carbajal telling me that I got the Congressional Woman of the Year Award. I didn’t really know what to respond, except for thanking him for the great honor that this is, said Uribe.
Estimated revenues for the 2021-22 fiscal year include $19.1 million in cannabis taxes, which is higher than sales tax and transient occupancy tax revenues
Over the years he traveled throughout the country to provide aid and comfort to victims of hurricanes, tornadoes, shootings and other calamities.
The son of a Navy officer, he moved around a lot during his youth, and came to Isla Vista in 1968.
Hedges earned a bachelor’s degree in cultural anthropology from UC Santa Barbara, and obtained his master’s in orthodox theology from St. Athanasius Academy of Orthodox Theology.
He was a board-certified crisis chaplain, a certified trauma responder and an emergency medical technician, who responded to disasters, large and small, in the community.
Hedges was especially known for his work assisting the homeless community and the downtrodden, and helped develop St. Athanasius Church’s St. Brigid Fellowship.
