Patrons shout at inspectors at Vancouver restaurant defying health orders

A video making rounds on social media shows a crowded Vancouver restaurant defying British Columbia’s current ban on indoor dining. Corduroy in Kitsilano is one of two restaurants that have been issued closure notices by Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) after violating orders from the provincial health officer. Video footage shared on Facebook shows the inside of Corduroy on Saturday, filled with people. Two health inspectors from VCH speak to one of the restaurant’s owners, who tells them that they are “trespassing on [her] private property.” Patrons inside the restaurant repeatedly chant “get out!” until the two inspectors leave.

Full closure order issued to Vancouver restaurant after defying COVID-19 indoor dining ban, say police

VANCOUVER Corduroy restaurant has been ordered to shut down, say police. The restaurant served customers indoors, on both Friday and Saturday, in contravention of the province’s COVID-19 restriction banning indoor dining. Vancouver police say they visited Corduroy restaurant on Saturday evening, along with provincial health officers. In a video posted to social media, the restaurant could be seen serving customers indoors on Friday evening. The owner appears in the video, talking with customers and breaking social distancing while not wearing a mask.  Cst. Tania Visintin, a spokesperson for the Vancouver Police Department says health officers, along with the force’s liquor coordinator went to the restaurant on Saturday in response to several complaints they had received throughout the day.

Vancouver restaurant owner now complying with indoor dining ban, but still wants it retracted

VANCOUVER A restaurant owner in Vancouver’s Olympic Village is calling on the province to lift the restriction on indoor dining. Federico Fuoco, the owner of Gusto restaurant, says the province’s recent “circuit breaker” restrictions unfairly target the restaurant industry. The province-wide order went into effect on March 30. Indoor religious services, group fitness classes, and restaurant dining are on hold until April 19 at the earliest. “If this was a blanket policy, I could understand it,” Fuoco said. “If it covered Walmart, Costco, liquor stores, etc., I can understand. But, it’s targeting the restaurants unfairly.” Initially, Fuoco did not comply with the new restrictions, and continued serving patrons indoors at Gusto. That led to Vancouver Coastal Health ordering the restaurant to be shut down immediately, for failing to adhere to provincial health orders.
