New lightning fires engulf 16,000 acres in Central Oregon July 01 2021
The Rattlesnake Fire at the South Junction campground is estimated at 4,700 acres with no containment. A lightning storm passed through Central Oregon Wednesday, June 30 and early Thursday, July 1, blanketing the landscape with hundreds of lightning strikes and localized precipitation. Crews worked through the night on several fires and have picked up five new starts Thursday morning.
An update from Central Oregon Interagency Dispatch at noon July 1 reports that the largest fire in Central Oregon remains the Wrentham Market Fire currently estimated at 10,000 acres east of Dufur in Wasco County.
