Military Sexual Trauma survivors: You’re Not Alone
We believe you – and we believe in you
We believe you – and we believe in you. Though a simple sentiment, to a victim of Military Sexual Trauma (MST), it can have a tremendous impact. MST survivors can have unique needs for support and healing.
Many survivors do not want to tell others about their experiences, fearing they will be judged or not believed. This fear leads many to suffer alone.
Over 1,000 Veterans who receive their care at VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System have experienced sexual trauma in the military. Many of these victims are women. One in 50 men within VA responded “yes” when asked if they have experienced MST.
RENO â A ribbon cutting March 8 marked the official opening of a 39-photograph display honoring female veterans who work in every department for the VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System in Reno.
The national photo exhibit features women who served in all branches of the military and are now employed in different sections of the local healthcare system. Glenna Smith, public affairs officer, said the project originated in Oregon to honor 20 female veterans as part of the âI Am Not Invisibleâ campaign.
âItâs been going on for four years,â Smith said of the project. âIt was begun by the Center for Women Veterans, which is part of Veterans Affairs.â
California Governor Launches Campaign Against Likely Recall
By
The Associated Press
California Gov. Gavin Newsom has established a political committee to begin raising money to defend his seat in a potential recall election, the strongest acknowledgment to date that he expects to be on the ballot this year.
The committee started its effort Monday by attacking the attempted recall as a power grab by Republicans. Newsom claimed right-wing groups are affiliated with the campaign. But under state rules, Newsom alone is allowed to raise money in unlimited amounts, while other candidates must adhere to contribution limits.
