For the fourth consecutive month, global air freight performance has reported a negative year-on-year growth and the worst performance in the last three years. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) released data for global air freight markets showing that demand, measured in freight ton kilometers (FTKs), decreased 4.7% in February 2019, compared to the same period in 2018.
Freight capacity, measured in available freight ton kilometers (AFTKs), rose by 2.7% year-on-year in February 2019. This was the twelfth month in a row that capacity growth outstripped demand growth.

Stanbic Bank Kenya’s Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) which measures month-on-month changes in private sector activity output, new orders and employment says last month’s pay growth was the highest since October 2019.
Corporate chiefs, under pressure to meet staffing needs, have in recent months preferred salary cuts to layoffs in anticipation of an uptick in demand in the coming months.
The rise in pay came in a month when firms slowed down the pace of hiring compared with May and instead focused more on efficiency in production of goods and services.
Payroll taxes dip Sh37bn on Covid layoffs, salary cuts

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has reported a 9.3 percent drop in Pay As You Earn (PAYE) tax receipts in the review period compared to a year earlier when the taxes amounted to Sh399.20 billion.
The taxman has blamed the drop from Sh399.20 billion to an estimated Sh362.08 billion on the impact of the pandemic on private sector jobs.
