COVID Rent Relief Program – New Deadline and Expanded Eligibility
Applications for COVID Rent Relief Program are available online at https://hcr.ny.gov/RRP
Throughout the application period, residents who need help or have questions about their application can contact HCR’s COVID Rent Relief Program Call Center for assistance at
1-833-499-0318 or covidrentrelief@hcr.ny.gov. Call Center representatives are available Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.
HCR will also allow to applicants who are unable or uncomfortable applying online to do so over the phone rather than by mail. More information on this assistance and expanded language support on the hotline and will be available on HCR’s website in the coming days.

Nassau County Executive Laura Curran has announced a $6 million County program to provide rental relief for residents struggling to pay their rent due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The Rental Relief Program (“RRP”), to be administered by the Community Development Corporation of Long Island (CDC-LI), will provide up to three consecutive months’ unpaid rent for the period beginning April 2020. Payment will be made directly to the landlord or property owner after the tenant’s loss in wages/pay and income eligibility has been demonstrated. “Nassau County’s rental relief program will extend a lifeline to renters and landlords struggling to make ends meet due to the pandemic. The need for relief has never been greater, and the County will continue to do all it can to help residents get to the other side of this crisis. I thank CDC-LI for their partnership in this endeavor and am grateful for the important services they provide for our residents,
A new application period is open through Feb. 1.
The expanded eligibility criteria includes that an applicant must be a renter and have a primary residence in New York; must have lost income during the period of April 1 to July 31, 2020; must have had household income before March 7, 2020, that was at or below 80% of the area median income, adjusted for household size; and must be rent-burdened during the months addressed in the application.

The program is not first-come, first-served, and residents who have applied previously do not need to reapply. The state will re-evaluate all applications that originally were denied with the new criteria.
