Council secures £3 7m to install insulation to homes around Watford

Watford Borough Council will work closely with Watford Community Housing Watford Borough Council has secured a significant amount of funding that will help towards installing insulation to housing across the town. The council says it has gained funding through a number of sustainability and housing bids, with two of them successful. Just over £1.75 million has been secured for a joint project between the council, Three Rivers District Council, and Watford Community Housing (WCH); the latter of which will provide further funds on top. This project is likely to enable measures to be installed in more than 200 homes, including 105 WCH properties and 50 private properties for external wall insulation, along with 60 private properties for solar PV and smart heating controls.

Union Jack flying in Watford in respect of Captain Tom Moore

The Union Jack is flying at half-mast in Watford as a mark of respect for Captain Tom Moore, who died after testing positive for coronavirus. The 100-year-old’s death on Tuesday has prompted reaction from around the world, after he raised more than £30 million for the NHS during the first coronavirus lockdown. Watford Borough Council says Captain Moore “was a beacon of hope who lifted the nation when we needed it most and inspired people all over the world”. Out of respect for Captain Moore, the Union Flag is flying at half-mast outside the council today (February 3). Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said Captain Moore was a “source of inspiration” in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.

Grandmother exposed after Watford Community Housing leak

A grandmother with hidden disabilities says she felt exposed after her address and some personal information were released in a data leak. Sharon Cooper Collins, 50, was one of 3,545 tenants to have personal information revealed in a blunder of “human error” made by Watford Community Housing when it sent out an email on March 23 to inform them of changes to services due to coronavirus. Attached in the email was a spreadsheet that contained information including full names, gender, addresses, mobile numbers, email addresses, ethnic origins, religion and sexual orientation. And Ms Cooper, who describes herself as relatively youthful, discovered that disabilities was also listed in the leak.

Watford Community Housing rated outstanding for older people

The housing association was recognised as ‘outstadning’ by Erosh, a national network for older people’s housing. Watford Community Housing offers independent living homes for customers aged 50 and over, and Erosh recognised the independent living team’s hard work, professionalism and commitment to high-quality services for older people. According to Erosh, this three-star rating means: “The service is performing exceptionally well, securing and learning from both staff and customer feedback and experience to shape the service and support customers to achieve positive outcomes. Whilst services are outstanding there remains a drive for continuous improvement and sector leadership.” Lynn Wheeler, senior scheme officer explained: “Going forward, this ‘Outstanding Provider’ accreditation will act as a benchmark, as we commit ourselves to maintaining these high standards and continuing to strive for excellence within our independent living schemes and beyond.
