COVID-19 testing to take place weekends, evenings for Waterloo Region students

  KITCHENER New details are emerging on what the targeted COVID-19 testing systems are going to look like for students in Waterloo Region. Trustees with the region s public board discussed the matter at length on Monday evening. A new and enhanced testing system will happen outside of school hours, including on weekends. For the first week, targeted asymptomatic testing will be run out of current pop-up testing sites at Kingsdale Community Centre and Victoria Hills Community Centre. Both the public and Catholic boards will invite asymptomatic students and staff from specific schools in order to meet the Ministry of Education mandated targets of testing six public and two Catholic schools a week.

School bus cancellations in Ontario for Monday, February 22, 2021

Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board: All bus service in Dufferin County including to Robert F. Hall Secondary School are cancelled. York Region District School Board: All schools open and buses are running. Peel District School Board: All schools open and buses are running Simcoe County: All buses in north weather zone have been cancelled. Guelph and Wellington: Buses have been cancelled in North Wellington, Centre Wellington, as well as Guelph.

Schools in Waterloo Region reopen to students for first time since Christmas break

  KITCHENER More students across southwestern Ontario returned to classrooms on Monday, including in Waterloo Region, where schools reopened for the first time since the Christmas break. It was a busy morning at Elizabeth Ziegler Public School as students returned to class after five weeks of distance learning. All students in Ontario began 2021 with online learning as part of the latest provincial shutdown. On Monday, most regions reopened schools with the exception of some Toronto-area school boards. Waterloo Region school boards said the first day back went smoothly. Things went really well, said Bill Lemon, superintendent of the Waterloo Region District School Board. Students seemed to step right back into the health and safety routines and the protocols we had in place.
